Media Training: Survive and thrive in the spotlight
It is arguably one of a trial lawyer’s greatest fears: to lose a case in the news-
media before jury deliberations even begin.
Thus lawyer after lawyer utters a terse “No comment,” flees the gaggle of reporters on the courthouse steps…and thereby shoots him or herself in the foot.

Why does saying “No comment!” backfire?  Because refusing to talk never kills the story.  It just gives your more media-savvy opponent a chance to pre-program the jury pool during the 6 o’clock news.

In truth, facing the newsmedia during a high-profile trial is not ill advised; it is merely inevitable.  You are an eyewitness to a major news event. The press will seek you out.

Talking to the press only becomes problematic when you don’t know what to expect, don’t know how to respond and don’t use the newsmedia strategically to your client’s advantage.

At The Strategic Image, we know it is possible to face the limelight, protect your client’s interests, preserve your ethics and still win in court.  Veterans of
60 Minutes, 20/20, Frontline and more, we have inside knowledge of the newsmedia that you can use to make reporters serve your interests, not their own.  So whether you’re facing an onslaught from local reporters or the likes of Anderson Cooper, Brian Williams or The New York Times, we will prepare you to…
  • Survive the media “ambush”
  • Field the toughest questions
  • Handle the toughest interviewer
  • Project confidence on camera or tape
  • Avoid being taken out of context
  • Avoid being sanctioned by the court
  • Stay in control of your case
